Questions from your own textbook
Pick your subject and grade. Torchie asks you questions from the book your school uses, one topic at a time, and gets harder as you get better.
For school students in Sri Lanka
Questions from your own textbooks, real past papers, homework help and battles against students on the same topics. Free, in English, සිංහල and தமிழ்.
Chapter 1
Practise from your own textbook with a tutor who remembers you.
Practise
Pick your subject and grade. Torchie asks you questions from the book your school uses, one topic at a time, and gets harder as you get better.
Get it wrong
Miss one and you see the right answer with a short explanation of where your thinking went wrong.
Still stuck
Miss the same idea twice and Torchie opens the pages of your textbook that teach it. Read them, then try a fresh question on it.
Memory
Every subject keeps a memory: what you find hard, how you like things explained, what you said last week. You can read it, edit it, or add your own.
Progress
Every topic shows whether you've learned it, need a refresh, or are stuck. After each session you see exactly what moved.
Chapter 2
Sit real past papers the way you'll sit the real exam.
Past papers
Papers from the Department of Examinations and provincial term tests, listed by year, with the marks, time and number of questions up front.
Exam conditions
The whole paper runs on one clock. Answer in any order and change your mind until you hand in. Nothing tells you if you're right until the end.
Results
Marked against the official scheme where there is one. You see your grade and your weakest topics straight after the paper.
Chapter 3
Battle students on the same topics. Climb this week's board.
Raids
Grab the loot from their storage, but the vaults are guarded by their own quiz questions. Answer enough of them right to break in. Miss, and the vault stays shut.
Quick Battle
Get matched with another student studying the same topics. Same questions, same clock, one winner.
Competitions
Every question you answer anywhere in Torch counts. Climb the leaderboard for your grade before the week ends.

Homework help
Attach the textbook page you're stuck on and ask. Torchie builds an interactive diagram you can play with, then checks you've got it.
Revise
Pick the pages and say how many cards. Check the preview, accept it, and Torchie makes an illustrated deck to practise with. Cards you keep missing come back until they stick.
Cheat sheets
Ask for a mind map or a diagram of the pages you're on. Torchie draws it from your textbook, ready to revise from.
Subjects
Not every school has a teacher for every subject, and tuition for the rarer ones is hard to find. Torch has the NIE textbook or syllabus for each of these, and past papers for almost all of them, and Torchie teaches from them. Each subject comes in the mediums it's taught in: Sinhala and Tamil for most, and English for the main subjects.

A day with Torch
After school
Torchie guesses the topic your class just did. Confirm it and take a five-question check while it's fresh.
Evening
A short session on your next topic, plus anything due for a refresh.
Break
A match against someone on the same topics. Win, and it counts toward this week's competition.
Weekend
Sit one under exam conditions and see which topics to work on next week.
And yes, it's a game
Dojo sessions and battles pay out. Spend it on new buildings and upgrades.
Drag buildings and tiles around until the map looks like yours.
Turn your past Dojo sessions into guard questions. Raiders have to answer them to get in.
Bigger buildings hold more and unlock more: more decks, more past papers, more battles each week.
For parents
No. The battles and competitions keep students coming back. Every question in them is from the syllabus.
Questions come from the NIE textbooks and syllabuses your child's school uses, and past papers from the Department of Examinations.
Each subject shows which topics are learned, which need a refresh and which are stuck. It's measured from your child's answers, not from time spent in the app.
Torch is for students aged 13 and over. Any question or shared deck can be reported, and anything reported repeatedly is taken down.
Your child can delete their account and data from the app at any time.
Yes, Torch is free to download and use. Some features have a weekly allowance, which goes up as you keep studying.
Grades 9 to 13: G.C.E. O/L and A/L, built from the NIE textbooks and syllabuses and the official past papers.
English, Sinhala and Tamil, both the app and the questions.
It's a study app. Everything you do in it is practice on your own syllabus. Battles and competitions are there to keep you coming back, and every question in them is a real one.
